Just a brief update for you all. We’ve recently migrated to a new server and a new hosting company. We’re pleased with this move, as it allows us to expand the horizons of the HFF world.
On the other hand, you may have noticed that we’ve lost the previous comments. We apologize for that. We lost them in the transition. We’ve lost a few other little bits and pieces, but we’re doing our best to restore the site and make it even better than before.

Habit Forming Films wins the Best Editing Award for The Long Road at the FAIF International Film Festival! It was unexpected for our short film to win the award in a festival of 70-something shorts and features, but it adds to the growing success of Habit Forming Films. I’d like to say congratulations to everyone involved with putting The Long Road together. I’m not the one for giving a coherent speech in front of a crowd of strangers, so my quickly muttered thanks needs to include the full collaboration of our 9 minute mood piece. We had an intense screenplay, brought forth by really effective cinematography, acting, musical score, locations and the help and support of a great group of people pulling together to make a short film.
Thanks, everyone!

We don’t always advertise our Wormwood Show here, but it’s worth noting that we’ve just hit the two month mark! Eight straight weeks of Wormwood: A Serialized Mystery!
We also just had our second recording session, recording episodes 9-16. The session went very well, and we feel our cast is really gelling as a team.
Our writing team is also turning out some great material, and this past week was our writer’s meeting, in which we broke episodes 17-24. Our writers are now writing, and we should be on schedule to make our 24 weekly episodes on time — as long as we don’t hit any production snags!
But for now, why don’t you give us a listen. Episode Eight is a pivotal turning point, the beginning of Act Two of our Season One mystery…

Just a quick update: we got back from the 2007 San Diego Comic Con International Show yesterday, and what a whirlwind it was. For the first time in the show’s 38 years, tickets sold out on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Plus the four-day passes also sold out. It’s a good thing we’re regulars!
Jeremy and I went down for the Wednesday night Preview Night, which is traditionally a pretty mellow night. Not so, this year. It was as busy as Thursday! But it’s great! We love the Comic Con show — EVERYTHING is there! Comics, movies, anime, manga, toys, video games– all the things a geek could love were on display!
We brought down some specially-printed Wormwood CDs and postcards, and we generated a LOT of interest in the new show. Many people had already read about us on Newsarama, where we had our press release posted.
But now we’re back in the grind and preparing to continue to deliver Wormwood, each and every week. Our writing staff is on an all-time high, and the enthusiasm is wonderful!
So, if you haven’t checked it out yet, make sure you do! The first episode has been posted, and a new episode will drop each and every Tuesday night.

I thought I’d switch things up a little and just talk about a few things that I’m really digging right now:
Funnyordie.com – If you haven’t seen Will Ferrell’s series of comedy sketches, particularly those starring Pearl, then you’re really missing out. The site itself seems to be a mixed bag…I’m not sure what to make of sketches like Haunted Lesbian Sorority, but well…I admit that I had to watch it based on the title alone.
Crossing Midnight – The first volume of Mike (Lucifer, X-men) Carey’s new title from DC/Vertigo was just released last week. I tore through it. Really good stuff. A mix of Japanese fairy tale with the tone of more modern Japanese horror flicks, blended together in a cleanly illustrated package. If you like Japanese horror flicks and Neil Gaiman stories, this is a must-have.
The Chinatown Death Cloud Peril – Paul Malmont’s debut novel is sort of like a pulp version of Michael Chabon’s Amazing Adventures of Cavalier and Klay. Malmont’s premise winds pulp authors like Doc Savage creator Lester Dent and Shadow creator Walter Gibson in an actual pulp adventure. Where history ends and pulp begins is just a part of the mystery. I’m clipping through this novel.
Flight of the Conchords - New Zealand comedy folk duo gets a TV show on HBO that somehow feels like Tenacious D as done by Wes Anderson. One thing I like is that while the show is a musical, the musical elements become an actual music video, rather than the classic format of the characters simply bursting into song. The “videos” remain in the context of the story, but they’re shot differently for each style. Oh, and Rhyme-noceros and Hip-hopotamus.
John from Cincinnati - Another one from HBO. I don’t know if I even have the vocabulary to describe this show, which is like nothing else on TV. I’d say it’s the weirdness of Twin Peaks mashed up with the complex drama of Six Feet Under and then strained through the colander of Southern California Surf Culture. But even that is like describe an orange using only the sense of sound.
